Bernd Valeske is a Professor and holds the Chair of Cognitive Sensor Systems at Saarland University, within the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology. The chair is closely affiliated with the Fraunhofer Institute for Non-Destructive Testing (IZFP) in Saarbrücken, Germany, reflecting a strong integration between academic research and applied industrial technology development.
The research at the Chair of Cognitive Sensor Systems centers on the development of intelligent sensor and data systems for non-destructive monitoring across industrial processes and material/product life cycles. Expertise combines technical testing, sensor physics, and artificial intelligence to create predictive and adaptive sensing solutions.
Key research interests include sensor intelligence, data collection and analysis, predictive sensor systems, and process optimization through advanced sensor networks. The work is highly interdisciplinary, bridging engineering, computer science, and industrial systems.
The chair actively collaborates with the Fraunhofer IZFP, particularly within the Fraunhofer Center for Sensor Intelligence (ZSI), MatBeyoNDT, and the Assistenz research center, fostering innovation in applied sensor technologies.
Bernd Valeske leads a research team comprising scientific coordinators, research assistants, and project staff, including Dr.-Ing. David Böttger, Dr.-Ing. Sarah Fischer, Dr. Yasmine Gabi, Samantha Dittrich-Rist, M.Sc., Vishwesh Vishwesh, M.Sc., Kevin Jacob, M.Sc., and Sascha Power, M.Sc. The team engages in various research projects focused on industrial sensing and data intelligence.
