Bernd Irmer

Dr Bernd Irmer is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Management at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), within the Faculty of Business & Law. He holds a PhD in Organisational Psychology and has over 20 years of experience in research, policy advice, and strategic decision-making across workforce planning, employee engagement, and organisational development. His research focuses on improving employee well-being and productivity, particularly in understanding the implementation of people policies, supervisor behaviors, and learning design.

Dr Irmer’s academic background includes a PhD from the University of Queensland. He has collaborated with numerous national and international organizations, including Starbucks, CBA, and BHP Billiton, addressing workforce planning and human capital analytics. His teaching emphasizes transformative learning experiences, particularly through an international work-integrated learning program with the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management. This program integrates trans-Pacific student teams to solve real-world HR challenges using virtual collaboration tools.

His research interests span employee well-being, organizational justice, and the application of person-centric approaches to organizational behavior constructs. He has supervised doctoral and master’s students on topics like emotional intelligence in leadership and task engagement at work. Dr Irmer’s work also explores student engagement through innovative pedagogical strategies, fostering global employability skills and cultural sensitivity.

Dr Irmer has contributed to policy submissions and academic briefings on equity in education, disability access, and youth employment. His international collaborations and industry partnerships highlight his commitment to bridging academic research with practical organizational solutions.
