Bernd Bruchmann

Bernd Bruchmann serves as a Member of the Scientific Advisory Board and Head of BASF's Joint Research Network on Advanced Materials and Systems (JONAS), collaborating closely with the University of Freiburg and other academic institutions. His work focuses on advanced materials science with an emphasis on sustainable polymers, surface technologies, and biomimetic systems. He leads interdisciplinary research initiatives integrating industry and academia to develop next-generation materials.

Research interests include bio-inspired material design, smart responsive materials, and 4D printing applications. His team explores mechanisms from nature (e.g., plant actuation) to create adaptive engineering solutions. Recent work demonstrates innovations in cold-drawn polymer surfaces, pine cone-inspired actuation systems, and low-cost biomimetic models for education.
