Bernard REITEL is a Professor at the University of Artois, affiliated with the UFR History Geography Heritage and the Department of Geography. His research focuses on urban and political geography, emphasizing border studies and cross-border cooperation in European contexts. He holds a Chair Jean Monnet on 'Borders and European Integration' (2017–2020) and teaches in the Doctoral School of Economics, Sociology, Planning, and Management.
Education: Habilitation à diriger des recherches (2010), Doctorat de géographie (1993), and Maîtrise de géographie (1985), all from University of Strasbourg institutions. His expertise spans urban governance, European integration, and transnational metropolitan regions, with a focus on cities like Basel, Strasbourg, and Lille.
Research interests include the semiotics of borders, cross-border policy networks, and the impact of European integration on urban development. He has organized numerous conferences and chairs editorial committees for journals like l'Espace politique. His work bridges historical and contemporary analyses of border dynamics, emphasizing spatial asymmetry and transnational cooperation.
