Bernard Capp is a Professor of History at the University of Warwick, where he has held the position since 1994. He previously served as Chair of the Department of History (1992-1995). A Fellow of the British Academy since 2005 and Fellow of the Royal Historical Society (FRHistSoc) since 1974, Capp specializes in early modern British history with a focus on civil war dynamics, family structures, and gender studies. His research also addresses themes of popular culture, religious movements, and maritime history.

Research interests span the English Civil War period, family dynamics in early modern England, and transnational topics like English slaves in North Africa. Awards include British Academy fellowships, Netherlands Research Council roles, and panel memberships with the AHRC and AHRB. His work appears in journals like Past and Present, English Historical Review, and The Seventeenth Century.
Teaching includes undergraduate modules on radicalism during the English Revolution (HI312). External roles encompass examining PhD candidates at institutions worldwide and editorial work for the New DNB.
