Berić Tanja is a Full Professor and Scientific Advisor at the Department of Microorganism Biology, Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade. Since May 2024, she has divided her engagement between the Faculty of Biology and the Institute of Physics, University of Belgrade, where she serves as Head of the Laboratory for Experimental Astrobiology.
Research Interests: Her work focuses on the biochemical and molecular-genetic characterization of Bacillus spp bacteria, including their applications in biocontrol and plant growth promotion. She explores plant microbiome interactions, bacterial consortium design for agriculture, and strategies for isolating bacteria from natural samples. Recent research extends to astrobiology, examining microorganisms from extreme environments for biotechnological applications and extraterrestrial extrapolation, particularly survival in simulated Martian soil.
Key Projects: She leads the new master module Astrobiology (2023/24) and heads the Laboratory for Experimental Astrobiology at the Institute of Physics, focusing on Venus as an astrobiological target.
