Bent Fruergaard Sørensen is a Professor in the Department of Wind and Energy Systems at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). He leads the Composites Analysis and Mechanics group and the Danish Centre for Composites Structures and Materials for Wind Turbines (DCCSM). His research focuses on composite materials, fracture mechanics, and wind turbine materials, contributing to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to affordable and clean energy.
He holds a Dr.Techn. degree and has extensive experience in structural and material testing. His work emphasizes delamination fracture, fatigue analysis, and material failure mechanisms in composites, particularly for wind energy applications.
- Research Interests: Composite materials, fracture mechanics, delamination, wind turbine materials, fiber bridging, and structural integrity.
- Key Projects:
- HEIMDALL: Detecting wind turbine blade anomalies using terahertz technology.
- CASMaT: Villum Center for Advanced Structural and Material Testing.
- MicroLab: Advanced tomography and material analysis for wind energy systems.
Dr. Sørensen has supervised PhD and Master’s students in composite materials and structural engineering. His publications span 266 works, with recent contributions on subcritical crack growth in ceramics and delamination mechanisms in composites.
