Dr. Benny Lo is a Visiting Professor at Imperial College London's Faculty of Medicine, affiliated with the Department of Metabolism, Digestion and Reproduction. He leads research in Body Sensor Networks (BSN), robotics, and AI-driven healthcare technologies. His roles include Associate Editor of the IEEE Journal on Biomedical and Health Informatics and former Chair of the IEEE EMBS Wearable Biomedical Sensors and Systems Technical Committee (2018-2019).
Research interests span pervasive sensing, computer vision, machine learning, and wearable technologies for healthcare applications. He pioneered BSN research, focusing on platform development, sensor innovations, and clinical applications. His work has earned awards like the IEEE ICRA 2022 Outstanding Interaction Paper Award and BSN 2021 Best Paper Award (1st Prize).
Key collaborations include the Hamlyn Centre, Centre for Translational Nutrition, and Institute of Global Health Innovation. He launched a Coursera MOOC on Advanced App Development for Android, emphasizing graphics and VR. His lab develops systems like the Automatic Ingestion Monitor (AIM-2) for dietary assessment and robotic endoscopic tools for minimally invasive surgery.
Publications focus on surgical robotics, food intake monitoring, and medical AI, with recent emphasis on multi-modal vision models and federated learning for healthcare.
