Benjamin van Rooij

Benjamin van Rooij is a Professor of Law and Society at the University of Amsterdam and the University of California, Irvine. His research focuses on rethinking legal systems through the lens of preventative justice, emphasizing holistic approaches to criminal behavior and systemic legal reform.

Van Rooij's work explores the intersection of law, behavior, and societal dynamics, advocating for strategies like situational crime prevention and socioeconomic opportunity expansion. He co-authored the forthcoming book The Behavioral Code: The Hidden Ways the Law Makes Us Better or Worse, which synthesizes behavioral science with legal analysis.
