Benjamin Schweitzer is a Postdoc researcher at the Institute for Finnish and Scandinavian Studies, University of Greifswald, currently affiliated with the DFG Research Training Group 'Baltic Peripeties' (2021–2024). His academic background includes a Master of Arts in Finnish and Scandinavian Studies from the University of Greifswald and the University of Tartu, as well as formal composition training at the Dresden University of Music and Sibelius Academy.
Research Focus: Schweitzer's work bridges Finnish/Scandinavian linguistic and cultural studies with musicology. His master’s thesis on historical-systematic Finnish musical instrument terminology highlights his expertise in linguistic stabilization processes. He is actively involved in the DFG-funded 'Baltic Peripeties' project, examining cultural and academic intersections in the Baltic region.
Professional Activities: A freelance composer with over 40 published works, including two full-length operas, Schweitzer has received awards and scholarships in France, Italy, Sweden, and Finland. He has served as artistic director of the chamber music ensemble 'ensemble courage', as a dramaturge for the 'Nordischer Klang' festival, and as a lecturer in musicology at TU Dresden and Dresden University of Music.
