Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinaiمعرفی
Benjamin K. Chen, MD, PhD is a Professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, affiliated with the Department of Microbiology. His research focuses on HIV cell-cell transmission mechanisms, virological synapses, and neutralization resistance, utilizing humanized mouse models for in vivo studies. Dr. Chen's laboratory actively trains students including Chati Zony (MD/PhD), Natasha Durham, Kenneth Law, and Hongru Li, alongside postdoctoral fellows and research faculty.
- Education:
Dr. Chen's research explores HIV dissemination through virological synapses, cytoplasmic tail regulation of Env proteins, and in vivo imaging techniques for understanding T cell migration patterns. His work bridges virology and immunology through multidisciplinary approaches involving confocal microscopy and antibody characterization.
Recent publications (2023-2025) demonstrate expertise in long-term viral effects, HIV/COVID-19 comorbidity, and antibody-mediated resistance mechanisms. Collaborations span coagulation pathways, transplant medicine, and patient-partnered research models through initiatives like RECOVER Initiative.
- Scientific Recognition:
- 2009 Avant Garde Award in HIV/AIDS research (NIDA/NIH)
- 2007 Burroughs Wellcome Fund Investigator in Pathogenesis of Infectious Diseases
- 2007 Irma T. Hirschl & Monique Weill-Caulier Career Scientist Award
Dr. Chen leads the Benjamin K. Chen Laboratory, which develops innovative HIV imaging techniques and humanized model systems for studying viral spread and persistence. His work has implications for antiviral therapy, vaccine development, and transplant medicine in the context of viral infections.
