White specializes in Pauline theology, the rise of early Christianity, and the interplay between historical and theological interpretation of biblical texts. His research has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal for the Study of the New Testament and Journal of Theological Studies.
His first book, Pain and Paradox in 2 Corinthians: The Transformative Function of Strength in Weakness (Mohr Siebeck, 2021), reinterprets 2 Corinthians through the lens of communal pain and Paul's theological response. He co-edited the essay collection The New Testament in Comparison: Validity, Method, and Purpose in Comparing Traditions (T&T Clark, 2020) with John M.G. Barclay. White has held visiting positions at Yale and Princeton Universities and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard Divinity School.
