He holds a PhD in New Testament from Durham University (UK), a MATh from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a BA in Biblical Studies from Southwest Baptist University. His research focuses on New Testament studies, particularly the intersection of Second Temple Judaism, Christology, and theological anthropology.
Dr. Maston’s teaching spans biblical studies, theology, and church history, emphasizing critical engagement with primary texts. His recent publications include works on Hebrews, Pauline theology, and the anthropological themes in 1 Corinthians 15. He is co-editor of multiple volumes, including Reading Hebrews in Context (Zondervan, forthcoming) and Anthropology and New Testament Theology (Bloomsbury, 2018).
His articles explore topics like Paul’s apocalyptic imagination, the Christological reading of Psalm 8 in Hebrews, and the nature of salvation history in Galatians. Maston’s work bridges early Jewish and Christian contexts, often drawing on Second Temple literature to illuminate New Testament theology.
He currently leads the 19-volume New Testament Theology series for Cambridge University Press and serves as Area Editor for Religious Studies Review. His research trends emphasize intertextuality, Pauline anthropology, and the recovery of Second Temple Jewish thought as foundational for understanding Christian scripture.
