Benjamin Balzer is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), affiliated with the Business School's Economics Discipline Group. He joined UTS in 2016 as a Postdoc following his PhD from the University of Mannheim (2010–2016). His research focuses on applied microeconomic theory, with expertise in mechanism design, information economics, auctions, and law & economics. Key areas include behavioral auction analysis, bidder-led collusion, and out-of-court dispute resolution mechanisms.
His academic contributions span topics such as informational punishment in mechanisms, loss-averse bidder behavior, and optimal arbitration strategies. Balzer has been recognized with the International Journal of Industrial Organization Best Paper Award 2021 for his work on conflict management. He actively engages in funded research and service roles, including contributions to academic leadership and policy-oriented economic analysis.
Education: PhD in Economics from the University of Mannheim (2010–2016). His research is supported by grants focused on mechanism design applications in law and markets.
