Dr Benjamin Archer is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Law at Sheffield Hallam University, part of the College of Social Sciences and Arts. He teaches on LLB Law and Criminology courses, focusing on Land Law and Trusts. His research examines anti-social behaviour powers, particularly Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs), and their impact on marginalized groups. He holds an Early-Career Research and Innovation Fellowship and co-convenes the High Streets Research Network, addressing urban regeneration challenges. His work includes policy submissions to governmental bodies and collaborative projects with Sheffield City Council and Liberty. He has been nominated for an Inspirational Teaching Award by students.
Research interests span criminal justice, urban policy, and homelessness, with a focus on legal frameworks affecting vulnerable populations. His PhD analyzed PSPO implementation dynamics between local authorities and police. Recent publications critique PSPO enforcement practices and advocate for co-productive solutions to homelessness beyond punitive measures.
Awarded academic presentations include keynote speeches at the Society of Legal Scholars and British Society of Criminology conferences. Collaborative efforts include organizing interdisciplinary events and contributing to research bids on high street regeneration.
