Benedict Kingsbury is the Murry and Ida Becker Professor of Law and Vice Dean for Global Programs at New York University School of Law. He directs the Institute for International Law and Justice and serves as Faculty Director of the Guarini Institute for Global Legal Studies. His academic career includes teaching at Oxford, Harvard, and other institutions.
Education: DPhil (Law), Oxford University (1990); MPhil, Oxford University (1984); LLB (1st class honors), University of Canterbury, New Zealand (1981).
Research focuses on international law’s theoretical foundations, global governance mechanisms, and intersections with technology and infrastructure. Key areas include planetary law, global administrative law, and mega-regional agreements like the TPP and Belt & Road Initiative.
Publications include Megaregulation Contested: Global Economic Ordering After TPP (2019) and co-edited volumes on indicators, governance, and historical legal figures like Grotius and Gentili.
