Professor Benedetta Rossi is a leading scholar in African and global history, specializing in the study of slavery, abolitionism, labor, migration, and gender. She holds a Professorship at the University College London's Department of History. Her research explores the historical dynamics of slavery in Africa, its intersections with colonial law, development policies, and contemporary abolitionist movements. She leads major research projects funded by the European Research Council (ERC), including the African Abolitionism project (2020–2025) and collaborates on initiatives like the Legacies of Slavery in Niger (2018–2022).
Her academic contributions include seminal works like *From Slavery to Aid* (2015) and edited volumes such as *Les Mondes de l’Esclavage* (2021). She supervises doctoral students on topics ranging from slavery-marriage linkages in Northern Uganda to labor histories in colonial contexts.
