Benedek Plosz is a Reader (equivalent to Associate Professor) in Chemical Engineering at the University of Bath, holding a PhD in Biochemical Engineering from Budapest University of Technology and Economics. He maintains a joint appointment as Professor at Oslo Metropolitan University and previously served as Associate Professor at Technical University of Denmark. Plosz leads research on sustainable water technologies in the Centre for Climate Adaptation & Environment Research.
His research focuses on:
- Water resource recovery processes
- Antibiotic resistance in wastewater systems
- Photobioreactor technology for nutrient recovery
- Computational modeling of treatment processes
Plosz's publications advance understanding of treatment process dynamics, particularly through computational fluid dynamics modeling of aeration systems and settler performance. Recent work examines antimicrobial resistance propagation in aquatic environments and interactions between nanoplastics and pharmaceutical contaminants. His 2025 research develops risk assessment frameworks for antimicrobial emissions in water systems.
Plosz coordinates projects including EU-funded MSCA research on antibiotic resistance dynamics. He collaborates with industry on water treatment optimization, membrane fouling mitigation, and sustainable resource recovery.
