Ben Zissimos is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Exeter Business School, having joined in July 2012. He holds a BSc in Economics with International Trade and Development from the London School of Economics and a PhD in Economics from the University of Warwick. Prior to Exeter, he held positions at Vanderbilt University, Bath, Birmingham, Oxford, and Warwick.
His research focuses on international economic policy and institutions, particularly how trade policies affect economic development. Current projects examine authoritarian regimes' use of trade policy for political stability and the design of international agreements under ratification uncertainty. Secondary interests include development economics and public economics.
Zissimos' publications show consistent focus on trade policy, political economy, and development, with recent work analyzing populism, authoritarian regimes, and agreement ratification. Methodologies frequently employ game theory and institutional analysis across historical and contemporary contexts.
