معرفی
Associate Professor Ben Snook is a faculty member in the Department of Civil Engineering and Environmental Sciences at Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (HVL). Based at the Sogndal campus in office HB H-1039, Professor Snook teaches several core geology courses while conducting research at the intersection of mineralogy, petrology, and engineering geology.
Professor Snook's research interests span multiple geological disciplines with practical applications:
- Mineralogy and mineral resources assessment
- Igneous and pegmatite petrology
- Bedrock mapping and structural geology of Caledonian formations
- Analytical geochemistry techniques
- Marine mineral resources exploration
- Development of automated electron microscope methodologies
His teaching portfolio includes both theoretical and field-based courses such as GE408 Mineralogy and Petrography, GE414 Structural Geology with its 5-day Western Norway field course, and GE481 Engineering Geology and Early Warning systems. Professor Snook continues to be actively involved in academic instruction, with courses scheduled through Fall 2025.
Professor Snook's work demonstrates a strong connection between fundamental geological research and practical civil engineering applications, particularly in the unique geological setting of Western Norway. His expertise in mineral resources assessment contributes to both academic knowledge and potential industrial applications in the region.
