Ben Salter is a Teaching Professor and Course Leader for the BA (Hons) Interior Design program at Norwich University of the Arts since 2018. Previously, he held academic roles at the University of Wolverhampton’s Faculty of Arts, leading undergraduate Interior Design courses and teaching postgraduate design programs. He holds a Master’s in Visual Communication (Scenography) from the University of Central England (2003).
His research focuses on the intersection of design with health and wellbeing, inclusive design methodologies, and the integration of digital technologies in spatial creation. Notable projects include co-design frameworks for dementia care spaces and workshops exploring empathy-driven design. He has presented at international conferences such as IASDR (Cincinnati, 2017) and Design & Emotion (Amsterdam, 2016).
Salter’s professional practice spans residential, commercial, and temporary exhibition design, emphasizing client collaboration across diverse budgets. He served as an external examiner for De Montfort University’s design programs (2017–2021) and is a HEA Fellow. His current work explores emerging design thinking, interdisciplinary education, and cutting-edge digital/material practices.
