Ben Kirkby is an Assistant Professor of Graphic Design at Southern Utah University (SUU), affiliated with the College of Performing and Visual Arts. He teaches web design courses including ART 3250 Web Design I, ART 4250 Web Design II, and ART 4300 Advanced Web Design. Kirkby holds a B.S. in Photojournalism and Visual Communication from Northern Arizona University and an M.F.A. in Visual Communication from the University of Arizona.
Prior to academia, he worked as a photojournalist covering border issues and later transitioned into web development during the dot-com boom. He joined SUU in 2016, drawn by the area's outdoor opportunities. His career blend of storytelling through visuals and technology drives his teaching passion. He actively engages students in applying design principles to real-world contexts.
Outside academia, Kirkby enjoys exploring southern Utah's parks, trails, and camping spots, reflecting his integration of professional and personal life.
