Ben Johansen, PhD is a Senior Lecturer in Composition & Computer Music at the University of North Texas School of Music, with nearly two decades of experience merging coding, music, and technology in creative projects, teaching, and research. His work spans acoustic and electronic music, improvisation, and the intersection of art and Christianity.

Johansen’s research emphasizes intuitive interactions, modularity, and physical computing, utilizing tools like Max, Arduino, JavaScript, and Logic Pro. His compositions often integrate interactive computer systems with traditional and electronic instruments, as seen in works like Light Box (Arduino-controlled metal sculptures with RGB LEDs) and Recycled Sound (sound-making metal sculptures).
As webmaster for the Baylor School of Music, he redesigned their website in 2017 and is currently updating it in Drupal. His teaching portfolio includes courses in Technology for Musicians, Electroacoustic Music Composition, and advanced individual lessons.
