Ben Hernstrom is a Lecturer at the University of Colorado. His artistic practice explores themes of urban decay, environmental impact on communities, inequality, identity, and the tensions between global capitalism and ecological health. He works across video, digital photography, audio installations, performance, and concrete sculpture.
Research interests focus on the intersection of environment, societal health, and value systems through interdisciplinary artistic mediums. Current projects include audio/video installations investigating sensory perception fragility and concrete sculptures as ritual objects critiquing global capitalism.
His work has been exhibited in galleries and festivals across Europe and the United States. He is affiliated with the Brakhage Center and GUT-C (likely a department/unit related to film or visual arts).
