Kate Casanova is an Associate Professor in the School of Art and Art History at the University of Denver's College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. Her work explores posthuman themes through sculpture, video, and installation, focusing on the intersection of body, materiality, and environment. She holds an MFA from the University of Minnesota (2013) and a BFA from the Minneapolis College of Art & Design (2008). Casanova's research investigates corporeal experience, hybridity, and the porous boundaries between human and non-human entities.
Her exhibitions include Foreign Bodies (2024, Kolman & Reeb Gallery), Gut Feeling (2022, Yi Gallery), and Metabodies (2019, PULSE Miami). She has been featured in venues like the Barbican Centre (London) and Doug Aitken's Station to Station (2013). Represented by Kolman & Pryor Gallery, her work employs materials such as bioplastic, silicone, and found objects to challenge conventional notions of body and space.
Key research interests include posthumanism, material experimentation, and the symbiotic relationships between organic and artificial systems. Her Fungi series (2011–2013) explores environmental decay and sustainability, while recent works like Deep Skin (2021) address pandemic-era bodily anxieties. Casanova's installations often blur the lines between sculpture, video, and interactive environments.
