Ben Gruwier is a postdoctoral researcher in Archaeology at Vrije Universiteit Brussel, with affiliations in History, Archeology, Arts, Philosophy and Ethics, and Environmental changes & Geo-Chemistry. His work focuses on zooarchaeology, bioarchaeology, and geometric morphometrics. He has conducted projects on animal-human relationships in Roman burials and post-medieval agricultural evolution using morphometric and isotopic analyses.
Research interests include paleoenvironmental reconstruction, taxonomic identification of archaeological remains, and the application of geometric morphometrics to understand domestication and husbandry practices. Projects like TAURUS and VLOV224 highlight his contributions to understanding cattle evolution and ritual practices in antiquity.
Key activities include presentations at international conferences (e.g., Cremations in Archaeology 2024) and workshops on archaeozoological methodology. He has contributed to over 25 peer-reviewed publications and datasets, including studies on Pleistocene cervids and medieval Flanders' agricultural systems.
