Ben Faugstad serves as an Associate Professor in the Music Department at Bethany Lutheran College, directing the Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble, Drumline, and Chamber Orchestra while teaching Music Skills, Conducting, Instrumental Pedagogy, Jazz Improvisation, and individual lessons in percussion, guitar, conducting, and composition.
His educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Bethany (2007), music licensure from Minnesota State University, Mankato (2009), and a graduate degree from MSUM (2018). Prior to academia, he taught at Lake Mills Community School in Iowa.
Dr. Faugstad's creative scholarship focuses on composition, arranging, and performance. He has published arrangements with Veritas Musica Publishing and composed the string orchestra work "Joy to the World," performed across Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin. His current projects include developing a beginning drum set method and composition guide, reflecting his expertise in percussion pedagogy and jazz education.
As an active performer, he played drum set with the Blue River Combo and currently performs guitar with the GBK Trio. His 27 recently taught courses span music theory, history, conducting, and applied instruction, demonstrating comprehensive engagement with undergraduate music training.
