Ben Ellis is a Lecturer in Physiotherapy and Head of Education at the School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences, University of Birmingham. He holds an MSc and BSc in Physiotherapy from the University of Nottingham and a PGcert in Teaching in Higher Education from Oxford Brookes University. With over 10 years of clinical experience in the NHS, he brings a strong practical foundation to his academic role.

His work explores how collaborative and transnational projects can enhance student learning and professional preparedness across global contexts.
Ben is recognized for his contributions to education through his status as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. He is also a member of the editorial board of OpenPhysio, an open-access journal in physiotherapy education.
He has led significant educational initiatives, including the Universitas21-funded global health challenges digital module and co-founding In Beta, an international collaborative physiotherapy education project. He regularly organizes and facilitates conferences, online discussions, and podcasts on physiotherapy education. His professional affiliations include the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP), underscoring his commitment to professional standards and lifelong learning.
Ben is actively involved in curriculum development, serving as module lead for Functional Anatomy and Movement and Evidence-Based Neurological Rehabilitation. He also contributes to the Widening Perspectives in Practice and Complex Integrated Care modules, demonstrating his dedication to holistic, interdisciplinary education.
