Dr. Ben Coulson is a Lecturer in International Relations at the University of Edinburgh's School of Social and Political Science. His research sits at the intersection of critical International Relations, history, and critical geopolitics, with a primary focus on the historical development of US-China relations from the mid-19th century to present.

Research examines contemporary US foreign policy in East Asia, East Asian security dynamics, and the relationship between popular culture and politics. He teaches courses on Politics in a Changing World, Geopolitics, and Sport and Politics.
Current work investigates how geopolitical discourses shape US-China relations across different historical periods, analyzing continuity and change in bilateral relations through critical theoretical frameworks.
