Ben Buratta is a theatre-maker, director, dramaturg, and researcher currently serving as Head of Acting and Performance at Rose Bruford College. His practice spans institutional theatres (The Bush, Birmingham Repertory Theatre, Royal Court) and unconventional spaces (nightclubs, warehouses), with a focus on collaborative, queer, and community-driven performance. He founded Outbox Theatre, dedicated to amplifying LGBTQIA+ voices in performance.
Buratta’s research interrogates dramaturgical frameworks, audience engagement, and queer representation in theatre. His 2020 article in Theatre Topics explores HIV narratives through dance-floor dramaturgy. He is an advocate for inclusive casting practices and has developed policy reforms in the performing arts sector.
Previously, he led the BA Acting (Collaborative and Devised Theatre) program at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. His productions, such as GROOVE and And The Rest of Me Floats, have been recognized in national archives and award nominations. He presents regularly at international conferences (IFTR, PSI, ATHE) and collaborates with companies like Arcola Theatre and Contact Theatre.
