Dr Ben Brown is a Senior Lecturer in Ancient History at the University of Sydney's Department of Classics and Ancient History, affiliated with the Vere Gordon Childe Centre. He holds a PhD from Macquarie University and has taught at Macquarie University, UNSW, and ACU before returning to Sydney.
Education:

Research Interests:
- Archaic Greek poetry and Homeric epic interpretation
- Origins of Greek historiography and philosophy
- Comparative Indo-European language/culture studies
- Socio-economic history of Archaic/Classical Greece, including tyranny studies
- Marxist/Critical Theory approaches to antiquity
- 'Big History' focusing on antiquity-feudalism transition (300-800 CE)
Current Projects:
- Monograph on 'Figures of Autonomy' in Ancient Greece
- Graeco-Roman land-tenure systems analysis
- Commentary on Iliad Book 23
- Prolegomenon to Hekataios of Miletus fragments
Teaching & Supervision: Specializes in Greek/Roman history from the Bronze Age to Late Antiquity, Classical Greek language, and theoretical historiography. Supervises Honours/Masters theses in Greek culture/history and theoretically focused projects.
