Ben Britton is an Associate Professor and Associate Head (Graduates) in the Department of Materials Engineering at the University of British Columbia (Vancouver) and holds a Visiting Readership at Imperial College London's Faculty of Engineering. He specializes in experimental micromechanical characterization, electron microscopy (SEM/EBSD/FIB), and deformation analysis of materials for energy/aerospace applications. His research focuses on metals used in high-risk environments like nuclear reactors and aerospace systems.

Education: M.Eng and D.Phil (Oxford, 2010) in Materials Science, Chartered Engineer/Scientist, Fellow of IOM3. He leads the Experimental Micromechanics Group and pioneered quantitative scanning electron microscopy methods. Awards include the TMS Frank Crossley Award (2021) and Engineers Trust Young Engineer of the Year (2016).
Teaching: MANU 480 (Advanced Manufacturing), MANU 458 (Clean Energy Manufacturing), and postgraduate microscopy courses. Previously taught nuclear materials and metallurgy at Imperial College.
