Bei Lok Hu is a Professor at the University of Maryland's Department of Physics, affiliated with the Joint Quantum Institute, Maryland Center for Fundamental Physics, and Physics Frontier Center. He holds a B.A. from UC Berkeley (1967) and a Ph.D. from Princeton (1972). His research focuses on Gravitational Theory, Quantum Field Theory in Curved Spacetime, and foundational issues in quantum mechanics and cosmology. Key projects include studies on stochastic semiclassical gravity, early universe quantum processes, and nonequilibrium quantum field dynamics.
His work explores topics like gravitational decoherence, quantum radiation reaction, and quantum thermodynamics. Notable contributions include theoretical frameworks for optomechanical systems and deep space quantum experiments. Awards include Fellowships from the American Physical Society and Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. His articles span quantum-gravity interfaces, cosmological particle creation, and quantum information in relativistic settings. Research also addresses entanglement dynamics, noise kernels, and non-Markovian effects in open quantum systems.
