Begüm Polat is a Research Assistant at Akdeniz University's Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Agricultural Structures and Irrigation, since 2014. She holds a PhD in Agricultural Structures and Irrigation (2022) and has focused her research on optimizing irrigation systems through sensor technology and computational models.
- Education
- PhD in Agricultural Structures and Irrigation (2022), Akdeniz University
- MS in Agricultural Structures and Irrigation (2016), Akdeniz University
- BS in Agricultural Engineering (2013), Akdeniz University
Her research interests include crop water stress indices, drip irrigation systems, soil moisture modeling, and sustainable agricultural practices, particularly in Mediterranean climate conditions. She has applied the HYDRUS/2D model to simulate soil moisture dynamics in subsurface drip irrigation systems and evaluated bioethanol yield responses to irrigation depths.
Notable trends in her publications include:
- Comparative analysis of irrigation methods using thermal imaging
- Development of sensor-based irrigation scheduling tools
- Integration of computational models with field experiments
- Focus on water-efficient crops like sorghum and soybean
