Dr. Beatriz Pineda is a Research Fellow at RMIT Europe, part of RMIT University’s Barcelona hub. As an architect and urban planner with a PhD in Urban Studies, she focuses on post-carbon urban transitions, energy citizenship, and sustainable lifestyles. Her work integrates sociology, psychology, and human geography to address food systems, energy transitions, and just urban development. She has held roles at institutions like the University of Amsterdam and Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, where she lectured on topics such as climate-proof urban planning and energy-positive cities. Her research emphasizes socio-technical and spatial perspectives, combining creativity and design in methodologies like digital ethnography.

Research Interests: Food systems, energy transitions, citizen participation, urban governance, social innovation, and just transitions. Her current projects explore energy citizenship in Positive Energy Districts and how residents’ practices influence energy-efficient technologies.
Teaching: Designed courses on climate-proof urban development, energy-positive cities, and social practice theory applied to sustainability challenges. Focused on behavioral change, governance, and interdisciplinary approaches.
Labs/Teams: Involved with RMIT Europe’s ‘Cluster Places – Communities and Built Environment’ and collaborated on EU Horizon2020 smart cities projects.
