Beatrice Waleghwa is a Lecturer in Tourism Studies and a doctoral student at Dalarna University, affiliated with the School of Culture and Society. She collaborates with Mid-Sweden University and conducts research at the Center for Tourism and Leisure Research (CeTLeR). Her work focuses on sustainable transportation challenges in rural tourism destinations, employing interviews and Public Participation GIS (PPGIS) methods. She coordinates courses such as the Bachelor Degree Thesis in Tourism Studies (TR2005), Introduction to Tourism Studies (GTR2CT), and Special Interest Tourism (GTR2G6).
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management from Kenyatta University, Kenya.
- Master’s degree in Tourism and Sustainability from Linnaeus University, Sweden.
Her research interests span tourism, transport, mobility, sustainability, destination development, planning, spatial analysis, wildlife conservation, national parks, and citizen science. She has contributed to projects like the EU Interreg Mobility and Accessibility in Rural Areas (MARA) and Micro-based decision support for sustainable tourism and infrastructure planning (MIRANDA). Her recent publications explore rural tourism mobility, sustainable transport systems, and GIS applications in tourism and infrastructure planning.
