Dr. Beatrice Jauregui is an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto's Centre for Criminology & Sociolegal Studies with cross-appointments to the Centre for South Asian Studies at the Asian Institute and the Department of Anthropology. Her work focuses on the anthropology of policing, security institutions, and state violence across postcolonial contexts.
- PhD in Anthropology from the University of Chicago (2007)
- Research spans India, Brazil, and North America
Her SSHRC Insight Grant-funded project examines global police unionism and worker politics. She has authored Provisional Authority: Police, Order, and Security in India (2016) and co-edited the Handbook of Global Policing (2016). Her recent articles analyze police labor exploitation and the politics of expendability in transnational contexts.
