Jeremy Patzer

Jeremy Patzer is an Associate Professor and Canada Research Chair in Comparative Indigenous Rights at the Department of Sociology and Criminology, Faculty of Arts, University of Manitoba. He also holds an Adjunct position in the Department of Indigenous Studies. His research and teaching focus on Indigenous rights, sociolegal studies, and their intersections with criminal justice, environmental racism, and colonial histories.

Research Interests span Indigenous rights, treaty rights, Aboriginal rights and title, sociolegal studies, UNDRIP, and comparative Indigenous rights. His work examines legal-political dynamics in settler states, including Crown-Indigenous relations, historical contexts, and contemporary disputes over resource development and policing.

Key Article Themes include colonial legal frameworks, UNDRIP implementation, comparative Indigenous rights struggles, and intersections of law with environmental racism and securitization. His publications often integrate historical and archival analysis to critique colonial legacies.

He serves as Principal Investigator for the SSHRC Insight Grant In law and politics: Advancing Indigenous rights in the contemporary Anglosphere (2025-2029), focusing on Indigenous-centered international advocacy strategies.
