Beate Baldauf is a Senior Research Fellow at the Warwick Institute for Employment Research, University of Warwick, with over 30 years of research experience in social sciences. Her career spans multiple institutions including the Centre for Educational Development, Appraisal and Research (CEDAR) at Warwick and the International Centre for Higher Education Research (INCHER) in Kassel, Germany.
Her research focuses on critical labor market issues including working in later life, vocational education and training (particularly apprenticeships and graduate pathways), health and social care labor markets, and migration. She employs both qualitative and quantitative research methods to address complex questions about workforce development and policy impacts.
Analysis of her recent publications (2024-2014) reveals a consistent focus on aging workforce issues, particularly examining how policies affect older workers' employment transitions, self-employment among seniors, and volunteerism. She also maintains strong research streams on graduate labor markets, family-friendly workplace policies, and social care workforce challenges, with increasing attention to post-pandemic labor market transformations.
Her funding portfolio demonstrates significant impact, with research commissioned by major organizations including:
- Government departments (Department for Education, Department of Health)
- Research councils (ESRC)
- European Commission
- Major foundations (Vivensa Foundation, Phoenix Group)
- Industry bodies (Institute for Agriculture and Horticulture)
Dr. Baldauf's work demonstrates strong policy relevance, with numerous evidence reviews and policy briefs translating research findings into actionable recommendations. Her current projects address pressing issues including hospital-to-social-care transitions for older patients, agricultural workforce challenges, and work-retirement transitions for disadvantaged older people.
