Başak Güven

Başak Güven is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Environmental Sciences, Boğaziçi University, Istanbul. Her research focuses on environmental systems modeling, risk analysis, and GIS applications in watershed management. She holds a Ph.D. in Geography from the University of Reading (2006) and a B.S. in Environmental Engineering from Istanbul Technical University (2000).

Her academic career includes roles as Assistant Professor (2007-2017) and Associate Professor (2017-present) at Boğaziçi University, alongside prior positions as Lecturer and Researcher at the University of Reading (2002-2007).

Research interests emphasize contaminant fate modeling, water quality dynamics, and climate change impacts on river systems. She has led projects on antibiotic transport modeling in the Marmara Region, river morphology under climate change, and algal behavior prediction in reservoirs.

Key publications address environmental risk mapping via multi-criteria analysis, hydrodynamic sediment transport uncertainty, and cyanobacterial growth modeling in river systems.

Her work integrates advanced computational techniques with field data to address real-world environmental challenges, particularly in water resource management and ecological risk assessment.
