Bas van Nierop is a Researcher at the Youth Lectorate of HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht and an external PhD candidate at Utrecht University’s Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences. He holds an MSc degree and focuses on adolescents’ psychosocial well-being, identity development, and gaming. His research combines qualitative and quantitative methods, leveraging longitudinal data from Utrecht University’s Digital Youth project and symbolic netnography.
Research collaborations involve Youth Studies at Utrecht University and the HU Youth Lectorate. Supervisors include Prof. Marloes Kleinjan (UU/Trimbos), Dr. Margot Peeters (UU), and Dr. Saskia Wijsbroek (HU). Practical outcomes aim to integrate findings into curricula and professional practices for educators and youth workers.
Bas also serves as a teacher and learning team coach at HU’s Institute for Ecological Pedagogy, bridging academic research with applied educational strategies.
