معرفی
Bas Boots is a Senior Lecturer in Biology at Anglia Ruskin University (ARU), Cambridge, UK. He joined ARU in 2019 and holds academic affiliations with the Applied Ecology Research Group and Biomedical Research Group. Previously, he worked at the University of Warwick and University College Dublin on EU-funded interdisciplinary projects.
Education:
- MSc in Soil Water Atmosphere (Environmental Sciences), Wageningen University, Netherlands
- PhD in Environmental Microbiology, University College Dublin, Ireland
- PG Cert in Higher Education, Anglia Ruskin University, UK
Research Interests: Boots focuses on interdisciplinary soil ecology, linking microbial communities to ecosystem functioning. Key areas include microplastic pollution impacts, anthropogenic disturbances in soils, biogeochemistry, and molecular techniques for pathogen detection. His work spans genes-to-ecosystems approaches, emphasizing biodiversity, microbial-animal interactions (e.g., insects, bivalves, cattle), and sustainable soil management.
Teaching: Boots leads modules in Animal Behaviour, Ecology and Conservation, Zoology, and Wildlife Conservation programs. Courses include Principles of Biology and Animal Health & Disease, as well as Research Methods for postgraduates.
Grants & Awards: Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Supervises four PhD students and has published student-led research in high-impact journals. Active in media outreach, discussing microplastics and cigarette butt pollution on TV/radio.
Labs/Teams: Member of the Applied Ecology Research Group and Biomedical Research Group at ARU, focusing on environmental and health-related interdisciplinary projects.
