Bart Stadhouders is a Lecturer at the Academy for Leisure & Events, focusing on placemaking, events storytelling, and inclusive leisure design. His research explores intersections of cultural narratives, themed entertainment technology, and accessibility in recreational spaces.
Research Interests: He investigates storytelling techniques for cultural tourism (e.g., folklore-based cycling routes), innovative technologies in themed entertainment, and creating inclusive leisure environments for people with disabilities. Recent work addresses multi-disciplinary design approaches to future sports venues and accessibility solutions in theme parks.
Collaborations: Engaged in consultancy projects with VisitBrabant, Routebureau, and Waterpark Veerse Meer. Co-led the NextGenSportsFacilities project (2024-2025) exploring design thinking and sports infrastructure innovation.
Notable Outputs: Published 9 research outputs since 2022, including studies on inclusive leisure projects for individuals with mild intellectual disabilities and thematic storytelling in sports venue design. Active in workshops and seminars on narrative-driven placemaking and cultural route development.
Grants & Teams: Principal Investigator for the Erasmus+ funded NextGenSportsFacilities project. Collaborates with teams from Built Environment, Imagineering, and cross-cultural partners on inclusive design initiatives.
