معرفی
Prof. Dr. Ir. Bart Jan Kooi is a Full Professor at the University of Groningen, Faculty of Science and Engineering, where he chairs the 'Nanostructured Materials and Interfaces' research group within the Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials. With a career spanning over three decades, he has established himself as a leading expert in materials science, particularly in nanostructured materials, transmission electron microscopy, and phase-change materials.
- Full Professor since 2009
- Chair of research group 'Nanostructured Materials and Interfaces'
- Over 335 research outputs including 269 articles
- Chairman of E\PCOS program committee since 2016
- Ovshinsky Lectureship Award recipient (2021)
Professor Kooi's research focuses on the relationship between nanostructure and material properties, with particular emphasis on phase-change materials, chalcogenides, and antimonides. His work has significant implications for memory applications, thermoelectric devices, and topological insulators. He pioneered the imaging of hydrogen atoms in metal hydrides using advanced electron microscopy techniques, a breakthrough that opened new avenues for hydrogen storage research.
His recent publications reveal a strong focus on cutting-edge materials research, spanning from neuromorphic computing applications using manganites to advanced characterization of high-entropy alloys produced through additive manufacturing. The breadth of his work is evident in publications covering topics from CO2 reduction photocathodes to the photoinduced response of antimony across multiple timescales.
- Ovshinsky Lectureship Award 2021
- 'Re Metallica' Brandsma price for outstanding PhD thesis
- Delft University Fund prize for best Master research project
Professor Kooi has established extensive research collaborations with major industry partners including NXP, Micron Technologies, ST Microelectronics, Photonis, Tata Steel, and IBM. His research group typically comprises about 8 PhD students, an adjunct professor (Prof. George Palasantzas), and a research technician (ing. Gert ten Brink). He oversees advanced electron microscopy facilities at the University of Groningen and continues to push the boundaries of materials characterization and design.
