Bart Holterman is a Researcher at the Institute for Regional Historical Research, University of Göttingen, and a Visiting Scholar under the Project Viabundus. He specializes in trade history, the Hanseatic League, and social/cultural history of the late Middle Ages and early modern period. His current project focuses on digital mapping of pre-modern Hanseatic trade routes.
Education:
- B.Ed. in Fine Arts and Design (2004-2008), Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht
- BA in History (2008-2011), Utrecht University
- MA in Ancient, Medieval and Renaissance Studies (2011-2013), Utrecht University
Research Interests: Dr. Holterman’s work bridges interdisciplinary studies of medieval maritime trade networks, particularly the Hanseatic League’s economic and cultural dynamics. His doctoral dissertation, The Fish Lands, explored German trade with Iceland, Shetland, and the Faroes in the 15th-16th centuries.
