Dr. Barry Prentice is a Professor of Supply Chain Management at the I.H. Asper School of Business, University of Manitoba, and Director of the University of Manitoba Transport Institute (UMTI). His career spans over four decades, with expertise in logistics, transportation economics, and policy. He holds degrees from the University of Western Ontario (BSc Economics, 1973), University of Guelph (MSc Agricultural Economics, 1979), and University of Manitoba (PhD Agricultural Economics, 1986).
His research focuses on northern transportation solutions (e.g., airships for Arctic logistics), supply chain optimization, and trade policy. He co-founded the Department of Supply Chain Management at Asper School and pioneered the M.Sc. program in the field. Prentice has organized major conferences on topics like sustainable transport and agribusiness logistics. He leads ISO Polar Airships, a nonprofit promoting airship-based northern transport.
Key achievements include founding Manitoba’s first undergraduate supply chain program (2003), receiving the Manitoba Transportation Person of the Year (1999), and becoming an Honorary Life Member of the Canadian Transportation Research Forum (2009). His 250+ publications address transport policy, containerization, and cold-chain logistics.
Prentice serves on boards such as Winnipeg Airports Authority and the Canadian Transportation Research Forum. His current priorities include expanding UMTI’s role in training supply chain professionals and advancing sustainable transport technologies.
