Barbara Törnquist-Plewa is a Professor of Eastern and Deputy Dean at Lund University's Joint Faculties of Humanities and Theology. She is also affiliated with the Centre for Advanced Middle Eastern Studies (CMES) and contributes to the MECW: The Middle East in the Contemporary World profile area. With expertise in cultural memory, heritage, and nationalism in Central/Eastern Europe, she has led major international projects including the EU COST network 'Transcultural Memory in Europe' (2012-2016).

Her research spans Polish-Swedish cultural relations, memory politics in East Central Europe, and transcultural memory studies. Recent work focuses on postmigrant narratives in Swedish academia and the impact of uneven temporalities on memory practices. She has received prestigious awards including the Royal Swedish Academy of Letters membership and Anna Lindh scholarship at Stanford.
Current projects include EUROPAST (Horizon Europe, 2022-2025) and COST-action: Slow Memory (2021-2025). Her international experience includes visiting fellowships at Berkeley (2003) and Stanford (2013) universities.
