Barbara R. Fowles, Professor and Department Chair of Communications and Film at Long Island University's School of Visual Arts, Communications and Digital Technologies, holds a PhD in developmental psycholinguistics and advanced child psychotherapy certification from the Advanced Institute for Analytic Psychotherapy. With extensive experience in child psychology and media research, she previously worked at Sesame Workshop, Harvard Graduate School of Education, and taught at Fordham, Ferkauf, and SUNY Stony Brook.
Research Focus: Her work examines children's cognitive development in relation to media consumption, spanning television, print, and digital environments. Specialties include media ethics, literacy development in social media contexts, and the social impact of mass media.
