Barbara Miner is a Lecturer in the Photography & Imaging program at the Art & Design Department Studios, part of the Peck School of the Arts at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She holds an MFA in Photography/Multimedia from the same institution (2023).
Her research and creative work focuses on themes of industrialization, urban change, and education history. Notable achievements include a 1st-place award at the 'Being' exhibition at the Rahr Art Museum and authorship of the 2013 book Lessons from the Heartland, which examines public education in Milwaukee. Her multimedia project on deindustrialization's impact on Milwaukee's economy and culture was recently featured on WUWM, Milwaukee’s NPR affiliate.
Publications include op-eds and articles in the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, and Milwaukee Magazine. Her work bridges art, journalism, and social critique, addressing urban transformation and historical narratives through photography, writing, and multimedia formats.
