Barbara Klonowska

Barbara Klonowska, Professor of English Literature and Culture at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin (KUL), chairs research and teaching within the Faculty of Humanities’ Institute of Literary Studies. She has been actively directing doctoral and master’s theses, with over forty successfully promoted since 2007.

Her research centres on contemporary British fiction and the theory of literary genres, with particular attention to magical realism, romance, and the historical novel. She also pursues utopian and dystopian studies, examining how these modes manifest in both literature and contemporary cinema, and is currently expanding her scope to encompass Australian fiction and cinematic utopian narratives.

International collaboration underpins much of her work: she is a member of the Utopian Studies Society – Europe and the Polish Society for the Study of Australia and New Zealand.

Supervision & Mentoring

Professor Klonowska has supervised a broad spectrum of theses, ranging from post-colonial Scottish identity in Irvine Welsh’s Trainspotting to trauma and horror in children’s fairy tales, adaptation theory, and the narrative complexities of video games such as The Witcher saga.
